We produce more than 120 new books annually, in addition to 40 journals, and maintain a backlist of some 3,500 titles. The Press emphasizes scholarship but also publishes text, trade, and reference titles. Our program is financed primarily by income from sales, supplemented by support from Indiana University and by gifts and grants from a variety of outside sources. Job Summary Department Specific Responsibilties: Creates, manages, and monitors marketing programs for IU Press Journals and products Creates social media, email, and web-based campaigns for IU Press Journals and select conferences Communicates and works closely with journal editors to maximize market reach of Journals Develops budgets and marketing reports for Journals staff and editors. Plans and executes scholarly conferences and trade shows. Works closely with the editorial and marketing staff on the development and implementation of the exhibits (virtual and in-person). Works closely with distributor to ensure books and journals reach the exhibits as required. Manages and tracks expense budgets and revenue goals for the position’s responsibilities Works closely with the marketing staff on developing new marketing projects General Responsibilties: Independently develops and executes basic and increasingly more complex strategic marketing plans for a department or functional area within a department to advance goals and objectives, including data collection and market research, target market definition, development of project timelines, sourcing of promotional materials, and marketing content creation. Responds to inquiries and requests from stakeholders and explains information regarding policies, procedures, and programs. Manages relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, including vendors, and acts as a collaborative resource in curating marketing plans to relevant initiatives, groups, events, and programs. Regularly researches relevant subject matter to increase knowledge in area(s) of specialty, including information on various marketing channels (print, online, electronic, email, social media, and direct mail). May participate in team-based marketing planning to align strategies and deadlines across various concurrent projects and initiatives. Collaborates with users of various software programs and creative platforms to create and deliver content and marketing materials in multiple formats to a variety of audiences. May provide guidance to lower-level Marketing Generalists. Qualifications EDUCATION Required ??????? Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, English, public relations, or a related field WORK EXPERIENCE Required 2 years in a relevant field Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. SKILLS Required Proficient communication skills Maintains a high degree of professionalism Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills Demonstrates a high commitment to quality Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty Highly thorough and dependable Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure Preferred Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office, InDesign and database management Good communication skills, writing and editing Good understanding of Word Press and graphic design Understanding of Salesforce Working knowledge of social media marketing including but not limited to Facebook, Google, Twitter, YouTube, TikTok, etc. The ability to multitask and work under multiple deadlines Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The ability to lift up to 40 pounds may be required. Some travel may be required.
